Declan Boyle

Declan Boyle from Killybegs joined Celtic in January 1995 from Sligo Rovers for a reported fee of £65,000.

Boyle had won Republic Of Ireland Schoolboy caps and FAI schoolboy of the year award in 1992.

He was one of the key players in the Sligo Rovers side, which won the FAI Cup, First Division Championship and Shield in 1994.

The then Sligo manager, Willie McStay, rated the young defender very highly and on moving back to Glasgow Celtic, he recommended that Celtic sign the Killybegs man.

Defender Declan left the club aged 22 to return to Ireland to join Derry City in 1996.

Though Declan never made it to Celtic first team, he did win a reserve League Cup medal with Celtic and was a stalwart of the reserves defence.
