Colin Healy
(Co. Cork)
Colin Healy played all his schoolboy football with Ballincollig and
Represented Cork Schoolboys teams u13 and u14 level.
He also played on the Munster u17 team.
Colin was recommended to the Fas Soccer School also by
Ballincollig where he impressed coach Mick Conroy and was offered trials
With Glasgow Celtic, which resulted in him getting a two-year contract.
He played for the Irish Youth Team and scored the winning goal against
Russia, which sent Ireland through to the European Championships finals
in
Sweden where they finished third.
Colin won eight caps at youth level and then went on to win six caps
at u20
level in the World Championships in Malaysia. Colin also has one cap
at
under 12 level.
During his two year contract with Glasgow Celtic.Colin progressed from
the
youth team through to the reserves and finally on to the first team
where
he came on against Glasgow Rangers at Celtic Park to make his debut.
He made his full home debut against Aberdeen at which a large party
of Ballincollig
Supporters were there to see him.
Was beginning to establish himself in the Celtic midfield with some
fine performances under interim manager Kenny Dalglish, including a
rather glorious goal against Dundee at Dens. Disaster struck when Colin
damaged knee ligaments in a clash at McDiarmud Park on the 13th May.
Colin came back and played his part in the treble-winning season of
2000/2001, playing in the League Cup Final against Kilmarnock.
Models himself on his countryman Roy Keane and can play wide or in
the centre of midfield. Irish Under21's captain.
Made his full Irish International cap against Russia in a friendly
in the month of February 2002.
Colin was unable to break into the Celtic team on a regular basis,
(despite being a regular for Ireland) and left to join Mick McCarthy's
Sunderland in August 2003, after making 49 appearances.
